Throughout their journey, unknown feeling developed.
is this affection one from a mere friendship, or is there something...more?

Throughout their struggles, their sorrow, and laughter - proof came...that something more was there. But it was just ignored for their battles were much more important.
At the end, Noel was worried about Serah because like Yuel, has the eyes of Etro.

His heart finally at rest, the final gate opened and she had no visions. Everything was okay. Serah turns to thank Noel but that joy quickly faded. Etro's eyes appears and Noel pleads that Serah doesn't look, for she can lose her life. Serah falls and dies in Noel's arms.

Noel mourns...with all of the memories, his heart feels tremoudous pain. This pain was something more...
He couldn't save her...she fought to change time just for Noel's future, something she knew would end her life. But she still continued. Noel blamed himself.

"Don't be sorry."

A voice regains Noel's state of mind. His surroundings changes, he is in a unfamiliar place. He looks around and sees a red plaid skirt...He looks up to see pink hair.Noel gets up and moves forward, shocked, his heart throbbing.

(Serah...?)
Serah happily turns and smiles at him. Noel couldn't believe his eyes. He felt his sorrow surge through him. He sheds his tears and Serah smiles and places her hand on his face saying:

"It's okay, save your tears. It's okay if I'm gone."
with difficulty, Noel tries his tears after looking back at the memories with Serah. Serah sheds one tear and asks him to Never Forget her. Noel says "I promise you." Serah smiles and tells him:

"Remember me, and we will see each other again." Noel looks down and when he reopens his eyes, he is back in his world, a fallen Serah in his arms.

He knows why she granted him the wish to see her one last time. She gave him hope, she reassures him that one day, they will meet again, to hang on to hope.

Noel looks at Serah...and finally he knows.
He doesn't just care for Serah, he loves her.
